Competitive edge haunts the #sportsman. “I’m just going to take it easy and play one game” can turn into hours of “run it back” between #competitive people trying to one-up each other.
Lately, my son and I have been working on some things to get better at #basketball and so when he played on my #team, it got me thinking about what the motivation is during the match.
I realized that all the #crossovers, far-out threes and post-work led to a mutual respect with not only those on your team but those who you are competing against (except for the cheaters 🤔). Playing the match sparked conversation and fostered advice not previously had. We all learned from each other and became better.
It got me thinking about team problem solving at work. When a team is confronted with a problem, playing the match together is how a team gets better. Opportunities to solve problems can be seen not just as something to tackle with a few of the best, but an opportunity to bring everyone in, to strengthen the team as a whole. 🙌
